Tuesday 16th July 2024
Following the success of the trip to Powys Castle last year, you will see on the programme that on 16th July we have arranged a Free Coach trip to Hampton Court Castle and Gardens. Join us for a fun day out with coach pick ups from Glasbury (9.30am), Clyro (9.35) and Hay (9.40). .£12.50 includes full access to the gardens and grounds, plus your castle tour. The tour takes around 45 minutes.
Dating back to the 15th Century, Hampton Court Castle enjoys a fascinating and chequered history. With a rich heritage of nobility and links to Royalty, the castle holds a truly special atmosphere, retaining splendour throughout its many transformations. The exceptional guides will provide you with all the factual history on the house, plus a few bits of gossip and tantalising rumour!
Hampton Court Castle offers twelve acres of wide-ranging gardens set against the panoramic backdrop of the Herefordshire countryside. Pre-dating Hampton Court Palace by almost 100 years, the castle’s interior and gardens have been shaped by its various owners through the centuries. Delight in the water features and island pavilions, breathe in the scent from the rose garden, and explore the verdant sunken garden. Marvel at the 170 year old wisteria arch, and lose yourself in our rather tricky maze!
Enjoy a home made lunch or afternoon tea at the Joseph Paxton (The Crystal Palace) designed Orangery cafe or bring a picnic to eat in the beautiful grounds.
u3a Hay meet in the lovely Music room at Baskerville Hall Hotel, Clyro, HR3 5LE for our monthly meetings on the third Tuesday of the month.
